Hurricane Dean Strikes the Yucatan

Video capture of Environment Canada's infrared satellite imagery tracking Hurricane Dean across the Carribean Sea. Towards the last few frames, just prior to making landfall, Dean reached Category 5. The eye passes directly over Banco Chinchorro, Mahajual and Bacalar as it finally hits the Yucatan Peninsula.

Hurricane Dean threatens paradise

Hurricane Dean is in the news today, partly because it is the first
Hurricane of the Atlantic season, and also because it's on it's way to
becoming a Category 5 storm. Dean just ransacked Jamaica, its eye
passing just South of the island, having spent the day before lashing
Haiti. The storm has been building up in intensity all day today,
bearing a course roughly due West at 20knots across the last stretch of
the Caribean Sea, with sustained windspeeds over 150mph and capable of
